Steadily evolving since its inception in 2004, Common Projects seamlessly plug the gap between the technical functionality of trainers and the traditional luxury of a classic shoe. With headquarters in both Milan and New York, founders Prathan Poopat, an acclaimed Art Director, and Creative Consultant Flavio Girolami, combine utilitarian design values with influences ranging from architecture to everyday objects, creating a range of footwear that gracefully crosses the boundary between formal and casual, with every style carrying a its own universal appeal. Each shoe is expertly crafted in Italy, utilising soft yet durable leathers and hard wearing man-made materials, resulting in footwear that is as subtle and luxurious as it is long lasting and functional. As ever, the A/W’12 collection is spearheaded by the ever-popular Achilles, a shoe that typifies the Common Projects aesthetic. Available in Tan, and White as well as a Mid version, the design of the shoe is stripped back to a single colour block and sleek, minimalist design. The same aesthetic is also prevalent in the Winter Premium, which comes in Navy, Burgundy and Off-White, and is suited to the colder months through the addition of padded leather uppers and full leather lining.

Another popular style making a return is the Vintage Low, with the A/W12 version updated through the addition of oxidized vulcanised rubber soles and treated suede leather uppers in Navy and Warm Grey, which are produced to develop a rich and interesting patina over time.

Our personal highlight of the Autumn/Winter 2012 collection is the Derby Shine, Common Projects’ take on the classic Derby Shoe. Utilising Italian polished leather uppers, the detailing is typically understated, with the simplistic nature of the shoe defined by a natural Stormwelt construction and black, crepe wedge sole unit. The Derby Shine is offered in both Black and Burgundy and is finished with a full contrast leather lining, offering unparalleled durability and comfort.

As ever, each pair of Common Projects uses the very finest materials and features the iconic gold block numbering to the rear quarter, Poopat and Girolami’s subtle, yet striking approach to branding, essentially resulting in each pair being unique.

Founded in 2002, Kitsuné have developed beyond their Parisian roots encompassing influences from around the world to create freshly balanced collections that emulate the travels of founding partners Gildas Loaec and Masaya Kuroki. With the help of London based design studio Åbäke, they have melded their passion for fashion and music, intertwining them into one of the most dynamic labels around. The Autumn/Winter 2012 collection takes influence from the British Tweed Run – an old cycling club that runs through the centre of London celebrating all things tweed – taking its sporting aesthetic and introducing a typically Parisian twist. As ever, designer Masaya Kuroki marries sophisticated tailored cuts with a laid-back leisurely look that nods toward driving culture as well the collection’s cycling influence. The first drop consists of simple polos, luxurious knits and classic shirting bookended by a small collection of accessories. The shirting is a typically authentic affair with a clean cut Oxford Shirt in a traditional blue hue sat aside the Worker Shirt constructed from a brushed cotton and available in a Navy or Red check. The range of pique polo shirts showcases Kuroki’s passion for tailoring, with each design having a slim and sharp silhouette.

Typical of an Autumn/Winter collection, the range of knits and outerwear cater for every eventuality of the temperamental British weather. The Classic series – V-Neck Sweater and Cardigan – are ideal for the cooler months of Summer with their fine 8-gauge knit lambswool working effortlessly with the shirting from the range. Alternatively for the cold snap, the Cable Knit Crew available in Light Grey and Beige works as a great layering piece. The Unlined Parka is the highlight of this first drop. With its robust cotton twill construction in traditional Khaki, the jacket represents the wholistic ideal of the collection – work and leisure.

The collection is rounded off with a superb selection of accessories such as the cotton mix Scarf, calfskin Solid Belt in Plum and Havanaas well as Kitsuné’s continuing collaboration with esteemed master perfumer James Heeley bringing a range of candles in Blueberryand Blackberry aromas, adding a touch of fruit-filled class to any room.

This season, Club Monaco marries smartly tailored pieces with a touch of casual ease to create the perfect transitional wardrobe. Each piece maintains a careful balance of structure and softness that can easily adapt to the various moods and swings of autumn weather. The focus remains heavy on color, texture andprints – with inspiration from Linda McCartney’s Life in Photographs, Sonia Delaunay’s masterful block prints and the leading men of the Silent Generation. This season’s menswear collection takes a cue from iconic, sophisticated artists—George Harrison, Gregory Peck, Hunter S. Thompson, to name a few— and revisits their timeless elegance. Our take on this impossibly cool style includes adding a soft edge to our favorite closet staples.  Classic blazers, cable-knit wools and lightweight tweeds in a sophisticated palette remain at the heart of the collection, but their cozy fabrics generate a casual vibe, perfect for dressing up or down.  Each piece is sensible, but is always made with a hint of warmth and whimsy.

All Available now at Club Monaco
